“Let Us Put Our Minds & Hearts Together to Serve Society”: OAD Director at IAU General Assembly

IAU General Assembly Business Sessions
While the XXXI IAU General Assembly has been postponed to 2022, the Business sessions were organized virtually on August 23 and 26 this week. A pre-meeting session was held before the business session on each day with short talks by each of the IAU Offices, Executive Committee Working Groups, and several prize winners.

In his talk, on the second day of the pre-meeting, OAD Director Kevin Govender appealed to the IAU membership, communicators, educators, and the larger astronomy community to join hands with the OAD, contribute their skills and time to create a better world for all.

The OAD offers various ways for individuals and organizations to collaborate, including internships, fellowships, partnerships, and regional offices. Get in touch with us to discuss possible ways to contribute and collaborate.

“The global pandemic has highlighted the great challenges of our time and the inequalities that persist. The OAD is a place for people to come together and tackle these challenges by applying the sophistication and grandeur of astronomy.”

Our sister IAU Offices also made short presentations during the GA pre-meetings.
