Crowd funding campaign

S.P.A.C.E. (Solving Problems and Cosmic Exploration), running from the Unizulu Science Centre is running a crowd funding campaign. We have tested ties with local schools and communities and partners throughout the region who will work with us on our astronomy initiative, S.P.A.C.E. With current funding, we will be developing resources to promote science and astronomy learning to visitors of the Science Centre, and create and deliver various workshops on robotics, solar energy, wind energy, etc. Our staff is highly competent and dedicated to the success of our project, but we are lacking the funds to include an outreach component to our program.

With 500 USD we will have the capacity to successfully visit ten schools in need. We estimate each visit will cost roughly 50 USD.

The expenditure of our funds will be as follows:

  • Transportation: at least $15 per trip to pay for gasoline. The Science Centre will make available its vehicles.
  • Handouts (star charts and other materials necessary for the project): at least $20 per school. This will provide the children involved with educational materials that they can take home and which will outline our lessons as well as provide more activities they can try.
  • Posters: at least $10 per school. This will allow us to provide each school with a poster to leave behind after our visits.
  • This will leave an additional $5 per school visit. This will likely be used to cover the higher costs of bigger schools or the gasoline costs for further schools. Anything unused will be used to support an additional school visit, even if Science Centre funds must be added.
