Astrobus Program Inspires Students in Nigeria

NAIJABUS is an Astrobus program aimed at sensitizing and inspiring the youth, particularly girls, to embrace space science initiatives. The project was conducted by the Centre for Basic Space Science, Nsukka Nigeria in partnership with local and international collaborators (Department of Physics COOU, Anambra State, Nigeria; West African Regional Office of Astronomy for Development, Nigeria and the IAU OAD). The team organized activities at the Holy Child Convent, Amichi, Nigeria that included astronomy lectures with the theme of Women in Space. A total of 340 student and 15 science teachers participated. The team also visited Union Secondary school and Trinity secondary school and held mini lectures and inaugurated Astro-JETS clubs. 

Pre and post activity surveys were conducted that showed a marked improvement in the knowledge of the participants. The average score for pre MCQ test was 42.6, and average score for post MCQ test was 73.6.
