Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE) and Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) have entered into a formal collaboration for AHLC and this project will now officially be a part of IIA’s outreach program. Through this collaboration, we will be able to leverage IIA’s expertise in training the locals on astronomy and handling telescopes along with utilising their infrastructure in Leh for organising the AHLC workshops.
We were planning to execute Phase-1 (first set of workshops and installation in 2 villages) this month and Phase-2 in the next year. However, unfortunately due to onset of early winters in Ladakh and temperatures already dropping to sub-zero in nights, we have planned to move the project timeline to April 2019.
Meanwhile, the core team is planning to visit IIA in december 2018 for a short training session. This will enable us to build the expertise within our team along with helping the community leaders to ramp up when the workshops begin next year.
