The discussion will take place on November 6th from 10:00 to 11:00 (workshop 3 in the program). See the summary below.

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is the largest group of professional astronomers around the world and created the Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD) in partnership with the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF). The OAD was inaugurated on April 16 of 2011 in the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) in Cape Town, South Africa. The first stakeholder workshop was held from 12 to 14 December 2011. Since then, two Regional Nodes, one Center for Language Specialties and three task-force were established. In 2012, the first call for proposals was released for each of the task-force: University and Research (TF1), Children and Schools (TF2) and Public Outreach (TF3). Thus, it would be interesting to use the event around the solar eclipse of November 2013 – História e Ciência no Príncipe, to reflect on the Introduction of Astronomy in CPLP using the OAD as Lever. A talk on OAD will be given and working groups will be formed in order to develop the basis for the discusion on the introduction of Astronomy in CPLP: The Case of Africa.
