The camp aimed to address the challenge of gender lopsidedness in school enrolment and bridge the gap particularly across northern Nigeria. And to encourage and motivate STEM education among girls. The 1-day camp consisted of
- lectures,
- solar viewing,
- hands on activities, such as building a prototype of a Communication Satellite, Tinkering (using DC motors and Markers), Universe in a Box, Coupling a Galileoscope, Solar system modelling
- star gazing,
- movie screening
A follow up project in 2019 has been funded by the OAD – 2019 Girls Astronomy Camp, Nigeria
