SciDataCon 2018: Digital Frontiers of Global Science’

The OAD hosted a session entitled “From Galaxies to the Global Goals: using data skills for development” at SciDataCon in Gaborone, Botswana during 5-8 November 2018. The first panel discussion focussed on methodology transfer between astronomy and other sciences (e.g. medicine, economics) while the second session looked at various aspects around the structure of astronomy data, meta-data and skills transfer in the era of big data. The session was motivated by data as the common language for cross disciplinary interactions among scientists and development professionals, and framed in context of data as a path towards addressing sustainable development imperatives. More information on the session is available at: https://www.scidatacon.org/IDW2018/sessions/256/
