DARA OAD Big Data Hackathon #1: Zambia

The Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD) and DARA Big Data (Development in Africa through Radio Astronomy) in partnership with the Inter-University Institute For DataIntensive Astronomy (IDiA) are organizing a Big Data Hackathon at the University of Zambia (UNZA) on Sep 30 – Oct 01.

The theme of this hackathon is Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning. Participants will learn how to collect and prepare COVID19-related Twitter data, then build a machine learning model to perform sentiment analysis on tweets from around the world.

The hackathon is part of a larger, multi-year program led by OAD-DARA Big Data Fellow Dr. Nikhita Madanpall which will see the implementation of similar hackathons in multiple countries in Africa.
